Free Cataract Surgery Outreach in Argoba

Eyu-Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Amhara Regional Health Bureau, organized a cataract surgery and eye care outreach event in Medina City, located in the Argoba Special District of South Wollo Zone. The initiative aimed to provide essential eye care services to community members who had limited access to specialized treatment.

During the outreach, the medical team delivered cataract surgery and treatment services to people suffering from cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions. Through this effort, a total of 120 individuals received cataract surgery, with more than 38% of the beneficiaries being women. In addition, over 530 people were treated with eye medications, including eye drops, of whom more than 33% were women.

The event brought hope and renewed independence to many patients. Individuals who regained their sight shared their joy and appreciation, explaining that they previously had to travel long distances to receive treatment at facilities such as Boru Meda Hospital. The journey was often challenging due to transportation difficulties and associated costs.

Community members expressed that this was the first time such comprehensive eye care services had been made available in their district, describing the outreach as a life-changing opportunity. Patients and their families extended heartfelt gratitude to Eyu-Ethiopia for bringing vital eye care services directly to their community.
